Orbit Tower to Feature a New Slide —Ted Pigott In 2012, a sculpture called the Orbit Tower was built in London to commemorate the city's hosting of the 2012 Olympic Games. At 114 meters high, it is the tallest sculpture in the United Kingdom. Now, the Orbit Tower is about to be transformed into the tallest and longest tunnel slide in the world! Plans are set to construct a steel slide both inside and around this sculpture. The slide will start eighty meters above the ground and then spiral down five times before ending with a straight fifty-meter descent. Even more exciting, it will have transparent sections so that sliders can enjoy the view as they race down.
The entire ride from top to bottom takes around forty seconds, with an average speed of six meters per second. Be ready for long lines of thrill-seekers when the slide opens in the spring of 2016. After all, it's not every day that one gets a chance to slide down a work of art from the Olympic Games!
