The Cat Came Back: Cloning Kittens in China
Ada and Jack are looking at pictures of Ada's new kitten, Pudding.

J=Jack A=Ada

J: Wow, she's so cute!
A: Isn't she? I love her so much. I don't know what I'd do if something happened to her.
J: You know, I heard recently about a man from China who missed his dead cat so much that he had her cloned.
A: Cloning your pet? No, I don't approve of that.
J: Why not?
A: Surrogate cats are used to carry the embryos. The cats are basically forced to get pregnant against their will.
J: You're absolutely right. I'd never thought of it that way before. Actually, come to think of it, cloned animals aren't even real copies, are they? I mean, they don't have the original animal's memories or anything.
A: It's like twins: they share the same DNA, but they have different personalities. How much did it cost, out of curiosity?
J: Around US$35,000, I think.
A: Unbelievable. Why can't these wealthy people use that money to help stray animals rather than wasting it on making copies of their pets?
J: So I won't sign you up then? In case something unfortunate happens to Pudding.
A: No, thank you!

Look what the cat dragged in!

Look what the cat dragged in!

• Look who's here!
• You look like something the cat dragged/brought in!
